Welcome to the G4 project!

Water is crutial to our life, and literally we cannot live neday with our water.

How do we produce fresh water in an lonely islead?

This project is going to find out how efficient evaporating water is. Also we are going to study the fresh water system on race rocks and compare the two different ways of producing fresh water.

We have a topic now!

I met Mark at noon and after talking with him we finally got an idea! We are going to look at the fresh water system on race rocks. Race rocks uses solar energy to produce fresh water, of wich the efficiency is only about 5%. Why not use solar power directly and produce fresh water throughout evaporation?
So we are going to do an experiment(hopefully)on the relationship between the salinity of the water and the the time. For that we are going to need electric probes, temperature probe.

Another possible idea

JJ just came up with another interesting idea--we can find out the water quality in Pedder Bay. We could measure the concentration of ions and maybe some other aspects. And also we could collaborate with the girl in Sweden and compare the water qualities in two different habitats. This is only an idea, keep thinking guys!

Initial ideas

After attending the presentation about the group 4 project, we met as a group and discussed our first ideas regarding the research question. We've been thinking about the ways to obtain desalted water from the ocean, which led us to the idea of comparing the efficiency of different desalting methods, such as vaporization, or the method used in Race Rocks. However, this is just our first idea, which may later change.
